Offering gender-specific rehab services has proven beneficial in circumstances where standard rehab facilities have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations in a women's life which are unique and distressing. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or any other really serious issues that are particular to women. Research has shown that women also can get involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness as a consequence of addiction problems than males because of this. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to put off trying to find and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. That said, treatment services for women are created to ensure a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Just like coed programs, drug treatment programs that provide treatment services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. Following this step, counselors help women target both basic and gender specific issues which may have prompted their substance abuse. Women also may take advantage of the constructive support from their female peers, and a few facilities which offer treatment services to women also provide client beds for her kids.
