Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need rehab for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the treatment client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment facility. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to resolve substantial drug abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. People who do decide on an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and be a part of therapy and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis each day or several days a week. This is helpful for those who have just completed a more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, and someone with only a brief history of substance abuse which is really a very small percentage of clients. For someone with more serious addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation facilities which provide rehab on a long-term basis will be the more beneficial treatment option.
