A group home for someone who has tbeen involved with alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which offers continual support and help for individuals in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but there's also group homes for those with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. Rather than sending those who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar facility, a group home can help provide an appropriate environment to help individuals sustain stability in their lives and also have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. People who reside within a group home could be taking part in rehabilitation services while in residence, or could be taking steps to get their life set up outside of the group home so that they can at some point live on their own outside the group home. For example, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain work. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent answer, but it's a viable short-term option for individuals who want to get their lives back together again.
