Dual diagnosis rehabs are centers which deliver rehab to deal with both mental health and addiction issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very common situation for folks involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as individuals with mental health issues frequently medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol to experience some type of temporary respite from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors will help individuals using a detailed rehabilitation plan all geared towards restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health while addressing substance abuse problems. Providing a safe setting is essential so that dual diagnosis clients can be relaxed and remain undistracted from circumstances which could compromise their treatment plan and progress. Treatment counselors will work to spot environmental factors in the client's life such as negative relationships or other things that need to be addressed in order for the person to be mentally healthy and sober t whenever they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation that helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so they are better able to deal with life circumstances well once they leave dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to alcohol and drugs as a possible option.
