Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be beneficial in situations where standard rehab settings have fallen short, like coping with situations in a women's life that are distinctive and traumatic. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, and other significant issues that are particular to women. Research has shown that women can also get embroiled in drug use more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness as a result of dependency problems than males because of this. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to catastrophe. That said, rehab services for women are created to ensure a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug rehab programs which offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both common and gender specific problems who have triggered their drug or alcohol use. Women also enjoy the positive support from their female peers, and some centers which offer rehab services to women provide client beds for her young children.
