LGBT represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This is sometimes a very hard or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of substance abuse to alleviate these feelings. Somebody who is LGBT may not feel safe in a traditional rehabilitation program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT center offers an environment which is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors issues which must be resolved to be able to recover. Treatment counselors in the LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family members, in the event their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This circumstance is an extremely common trigger for substance abuse, and is a good example of something will be resolved in treatment.
