A group home for a person who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which offers continual support and assistance for folks in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for individuals with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. Instead of sending individuals who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar place, a group home may help provide an acceptable environment to help individuals sustain stability in their lives and have counsel and support at their fingertips 24/7. Residents within a group home might be taking part in rehab services during residence, or could be taking actions to get their life setup outside of the group home to enable them to at some time live independently outside of the group home. As an example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or acquire work. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent solution, however it is a viable short term option for individuals who want to get their lives back together again.
