Dual diagnosis rehabs are centers which provide treatment to handle both addiction and mental health issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for folks involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as individuals with mental health issues often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some type of short-term respite from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors will help people using a comprehensive treatment plan all geared towards restoring and replenishing mental, physical and emotional health while also dealing with drug abuse problems. Offering a safe and secure environment is essential to ensure dual diagnosis clients can be comfortable and remain free from distraction from things that may cut across their program and advancement. Rehab counselors will continue to work to spot environmental issues in the client's life including negative relationships or other things which should be addressed in order for the person to remain mentally stable and abstinen t whenever they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral rehabilitation which helps them develop more efficient coping mechanisms so they are able to better handle life circumstances more effectively when they depart dual diagnosis rehab instead of turning to drugs and alcohol as an inferior answer.
