Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver treatment to address both mental health and addiction concerns at the same time. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common situation for people involved in substance abuse, as people with mental health problems often self medicate with alcohol and drugs to experience some form of temporary relief from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors will help people using a thorough treatment plan all geared towards restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health whilst addressing substance abuse issues. Offering a safe and secure environment is vital to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can feel at ease and remain free from distraction from things that could cut across their treatment plan and progress. Rehabilitation counselors will work to recognize environmental issues in the client's life including negative people in their lives or other things which must be addressed in order for the person to remain mentally healthy and abstinen t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment which will help them develop more efficient coping mechanisms so they are better able to deal with life situations better after they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior solution.
