Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where standard rehab facilities have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations in the women's life which can be unique and painful. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or any other serious issues which are specific to women. Research has shown that women could also get involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and are more predisposed to illness as a result of drug abuse problems than males because of this. Because of responsibilities in the home, women also tend to put off seeking out and undergoing treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs would be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers which offer rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender-specific concerns which may have triggered their drug abuse. Women also enjoy the constructive support from their female peers, plus some facilities which offer rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for their children.
