A group home for someone who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a place which provides continual support and assistance for people in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for folks with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral trouble for example. As an alternative to sending individuals who are being affected by drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar place, a group home can help provide an acceptable environment to help individuals maintain stability within their lives and still have counsel and assistance within reach 24/7. People who reside in a group home could possibly be getting involved in rehab services while in residence, or may be taking actions to get their life setup outside of the group home so that they can at some point live independently outside of the group home. For example, a troubled youth who has been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can try to get their GED or obtain work. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent solution, but it's a viable short term option for individuals who want to get their lives back together again.
