Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger substance abuse, or dangerous sexual behavior as a result of abusing drugs may have caused the person to contract the sickness. Individuals who have HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their drug abuse or as a pre-existing problem just before their substance abuse problem, often require treatment services tailor-made to satisfy their specific needs and problems. Many of these problems are physical in nature, because of the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS almost never take care of themselves and take the proper medicines they need to maintain their own health. Because of this, these individuals arrive to rehabilitation in very poor physical shape and this will have to be handled as a priority whilst addressing other critical concerns. Besides the obvious requirement to deliver medical services whilst in rehab, those that have HIV/AIDS should also address deeper problems which brought about their alcohol or drug use. Very often, individuals have conditions within their lives which are strictly environmental which may have triggered them to turn to drugs or alcohol, including oppressive situations in their lives or negative relationships. These are the issues which rehabilitation professionals will focus on as part of HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
