LGBT represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the particular needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially depraved. This is sometimes a very difficult and painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug abuse to alleviate this pain. Somebody that is LGBT might not feel safe in a traditional treatment program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which need to be resolved so that they can recover. Treatment counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients repair relationships with their family members, in the event their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for drug use, which is a good example of an issue that can be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and produce confidence in order to lead a healthy life free of alcohol and drugs.
