Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in situations where conventional treatment facilities have fallen short, for example dealing with situations in a women's life that are unique and traumatic. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other significant issues that are particular to women. Research shows that women could also get involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and are more predisposed to illness as a consequence of addiction problems than males as a result. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. Being mindful of this, rehabilitation services for women are designed so that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed programs, drug rehabilitation facilities which provide treatment solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both general and gender specific concerns who have brought on their drug abuse. Women also enjoy the positive support from other female peers, and a few facilities that offer rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for their children.
