Criminal justice client rehabs are available as a significantly better option than jail time or heavy fines for those who have already been convicted of any sort of alcohol or drug related crime. For instance, anyone who has been in prison for driving while impaired of drugs or alcohol may be eligible to receive rehab services for his or her problem instead of serving time in prison. The judge may even order the individual receive rehab, either alone or together with other sentencing. First time offenders specifically tend to be given the opportunity to choose a criminal justice client rehab as opposed to other sentencing, and it is highly recommended they benefit from it when it is a choice. The idea behind criminal justice client rehabs is it is much more effective and efficient to invest effort and time into rehab than punishment.
