Individuals who wish to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehab client to take part in treatment services without the commitment you might normally have to consent to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve significant substance abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an opportune possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those who do choose an outpatient rehab will typically show up at meetings and take part in counseling and treatment services on a part-time basis every day or a few days a week. This is helpful for many who have recently completed an even more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with just a brief history of drug use which is usually a really small amount of clients. For a person with more severe drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers which offer treatment on a long-term basis will probably be the more effective rehab choice.
