Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very helpful in situations where conventional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations inside a women's life that are unique and painful. Such troubles may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or other significant issues that are particular to women. Research has shown that women can also become involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to illness as a result of addiction issues than males because of this. Due to obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone looking for and undergoing treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for disaster. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed programs, drug rehab centers that provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both general and gender-specific concerns which may have triggered their substance abuse. Women also enjoy the constructive support from their female peers, and some centers that offer treatment services to women also provide client beds for her children.
