LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is often a very hard or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of drug abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone that is LGBT might not feel at ease inside a conventional rehab facility amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT facility provides an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which need to be resolved in order to get well. Treatment counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients fix relationships with their family members, in case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for drug use, and is an illustration of an issue that will be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence in order to lead a healthy life free from drugs and alcohol.
