LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the particular needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is sometimes a very hard or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of substance abuse to alleviate these feelings. Someone who is LGBT might not feel relaxed in a conventional rehabilitation program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehab counselors issues which must be resolved to enable them to get better. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients fix relationships with their loved ones, in case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is certainly a frequent trigger for abusing drugs, which is a good example of something which would be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life free from alcohol and drugs.
