Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in circumstances where conventional rehab facilities have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations within a women's life which can be unique and painful. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or another significant issues that are particular to women. Research has revealed that women could also get involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness as a result of addiction issues than males consequently. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to put off trying to find and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created to ensure a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Just like coed rehabs, alcohol and drug treatment programs that offer rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women focus on both standard and gender specific concerns which may have induced their drug abuse. Women also utilize the positive support from their female peers, and several centers which offer rehab services to women offer client beds for her children.
