Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very helpful in situations where conventional treatment facilities have fallen short, like dealing with situations within a women's life that happen to be distinctive and distressing. Such troubles may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or other serious issues that are specific to women. Research has revealed that women may also become involved in drug use more easily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to sickness because of drug abuse problems than males as a result. Because of duties in the home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. That said, rehabilitation services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed programs, drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities which offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women target both general and gender specific problems who have induced their substance abuse. Women also benefit from the positive support from other female peers, and some programs that provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for her young children.
