LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This is often a very difficult or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of substance abuse to alleviate these feelings. Someone that is LGBT might not exactly feel at ease inside a conventional rehab facility amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment that's free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which must be handled in order to recover. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in the case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is usually the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug use, and it is an illustration of something which would be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence in order to lead a wholesome life free from alcohol and drugs.
