A group home for somebody who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which provides continual support and help for those in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled adolescents, but there are also group homes for people with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral difficulties for example. As an alternative to sending those who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar place, a group home can help provide an appropriate environment to help individuals maintain stability inside their lives and still have counsel and support at their fingertips 24/7. Residents in a group home may be involved in treatment services during residence, or may be taking measures to get their life set up outside the group home so that they can at one point live on their own not in the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent solution, but it's a sensible short term option for individuals who want to get their lives back together.
