Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in circumstances where traditional treatment settings have not meet expectations, like dealing with situations in the women's life which can be distinctive and distressing. Such troubles may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, and other serious issues which are particular to women. Research has revealed that women can also get embroiled in drug abuse more readily than men, and are more predisposed to sickness as a consequence of drug abuse problems than males as a result. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. That said, rehab services for women are created so that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Much like coed centers, alcohol and drug treatment centers which provide rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women target both common and gender-specific concerns which may have induced their substance abuse. Women also utilize the beneficial support from other female peers, and a few facilities that provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for their kids.
