LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and seen as socially unwanted. This can be a quite challenging and painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of drug abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone who is LGBT may not feel comfortable within a conventional rehabilitation facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment that's free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which should be resolved to be able to get well. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their loved ones, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual choice as is usually the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug abuse, and is a good example of an issue that can be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and produce confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life free of alcohol and drugs.
