Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven beneficial in situations where standard rehab facilities have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations in the women's life that are distinctive and painful. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, and other serious issues which can be specific to women. Research has shown that women also can get involved in substance abuse more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness because of drug abuse issues than males consequently. Because of responsibilities in the home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created to ensure a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug and alcohol treatment centers which offer rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women target both standard and gender specific concerns who have prompted their drug abuse. Women also enjoy the beneficial support from their female peers, plus some centers that offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for their young children.
