Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehabilitation client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to solve substantial substance abuse issues. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. People who do choose an outpatient rehab will typically attend meetings and take part in therapy and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis each day or a few days each week. This is helpful for individuals who have recently completed an even more complete inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with just a brief history of drug abuse which is really a really small amount of clients. For someone with more serious addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs that provide rehab on a long-term basis will probably be the more beneficial treatment choice.
