Dual diagnosis rehabs are centers which provide treatment to address both mental health and addiction issues simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for individuals involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as people with mental health disorders often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some form of short-term relief from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors will help individuals using a detailed rehabilitation plan all targeted at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health while addressing substance abuse problems. Providing a safe and secure setting is vital so that dual diagnosis clients can be relaxed and remain free from distraction from things which could cut across their program and development. Rehab counselors will continue to work to spot environmental issues in the client's life including negative people in their lives or any other things which have to be addressed in order for the person to stay mentally stable and sober t after they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment which will help them develop more efficient coping methods so they are able to better handle life situations more effectively when they depart dual diagnosis rehab rather than turning to drugs as a possible answer.
