TRICARE is health care insurance that is provided to people in the armed forces of the United States. Substance abuse within the military is much more common than one would assume, and the necessity to offer treatment to these individuals is a vital priority. TRICARE covers a variety of rehabilitation services to deal with drug and alcohol dependence including detox services, and also rehab in outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient programs. Individuals with TRICARE will naturally be required to obtain a prior approval before taking part in any kind of rehabilitation service, which may be organized with their regional TRICARE representative. If an inpatient program will be the preferred treatment option, TRICARE will cover a three week period or one inpatient stay in this particular center per benefit period which is every 365 days. There are particular limits about the length of time a TRICARE member can remain in an inpatient center that accepts TRICARE, and there is typically a 30-45 day window that is covered. TRICARE also covers family therapy which may be very useful, as it could help include loved ones in the healing and process of recovery.
