LGBT represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially depraved. This may be a very hard and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of substance abuse to numb these feelings. Somebody who is LGBT might not exactly feel relaxed inside a traditional rehabilitation center amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program offers an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which must be handled to enable them to get well. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in the event their family disagree with their sexual choice as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for substance abuse, and it is an example of something which can be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
