LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially depraved. This is often a very difficult and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of substance abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone who is LGBT may not feel at ease in a traditional treatment program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT facility provides an environment which is totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and treatment counselors issues which should be resolved so that they can get well. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug abuse, and is also an illustration of something which would be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence so that they can lead a healthy life clear of drugs and alcohol.
