Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger substance abuse, or risky sexual behavior as a result of substance abuse may have caused the person to contract the sickness. Folks who suffer from HIV/AIDS, either due to their substance abuse or as a pre-existing condition prior to their drug use problem, frequently require rehab services tailored to fulfill their particular needs and problems. Many of these challenges are physical in nature, because of the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS almost never look after themselves and take the proper medications they need to maintain their own health. As a result, these individuals arrive to rehabilitation in very poor health and this will have to be addressed as a priority whilst dealing with other important concerns. Apart from the obvious necessity to provide medical services whilst in rehab, people with HIV/AIDS also have to address deeper issues which prompted their drug or alcohol use. Often, individuals have conditions in their lives which are purely environmental which may have caused them to use drugs or alcohol, such as oppressive circumstances within their lives or negative relationships. These are the issues which rehab counselors will focus on as part of HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
