Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very helpful in situations where conventional rehab settings have not meet expectations, like dealing with situations inside a women's life which can be unique and painful. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other serious issues that are specific to women. Research shows that women could also get embroiled in drug abuse more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness as a consequence of addiction problems than males consequently. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, treatment services for women are designed in order that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Much like coed programs, drug rehabilitation programs that offer treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both general and gender specific issues who have brought on their substance abuse. Women also benefit from the positive support from their female peers, and a few centers which provide treatment services to women offer client beds for her young children.
