Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehab to address both mental health and addiction issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for those involved in drug abuse, as individuals with mental health problems often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some kind of temporary respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors will help individuals using a comprehensive treatment plan all aimed at restoring and replenishing mental, emotional and physical health whilst dealing with alcohol and drug abuse concerns. Providing a safe environment is vital to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can feel relaxed and remain undistracted from circumstances that may compromise their program and development. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life including negative relationships or other things which need to be addressed in order for the individual to stay mentally stable and abstinen t when they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation that helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so they are better able to deal with life circumstances more proficiently after they leave dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to drugs and alcohol as an inferior option.
