LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially depraved. This is often a very hard or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug use to alleviate these feelings. Someone that is LGBT may not feel relaxed in a traditional treatment center amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors problems which have to be resolved in order to recover. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This situation is certainly a common trigger for substance abuse, and is also a good example of something which could be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted in their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and create confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life free of alcohol and drugs.
