Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may set off drug or alcohol use, or dangerous sexual behavior due to drug abuse could have caused the individual to contract the disease. People who have HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their drug abuse or as a pre-existing problem prior to their substance abuse problem, often require rehabilitation services tailored to meet their specific demands and challenges. Some of these problems are physical in nature, because of the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS almost never care for themselves and take the appropriate medications they need to maintain their own health. Consequently, these individuals arrive to rehab in very poor physical shape and this will have to be handled as a priority while also addressing other important concerns. Apart from the obvious requirement to offer medical services during rehab, those that have HIV/AIDS also have to tackle deeper problems which prompted their drug or alcohol use. Usually, individuals have situations in their lives which are strictly environmental which may have caused them to use alcohol or drugs, like oppressive situations in their lives or damaging relationships. These are the concerns which rehabilitation professionals will concentrate on in HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
