Dual diagnosis rehabs are centers which provide treatment to address both addiction and mental health issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very common situation for people involved in substance abuse, as people who have mental health problems frequently self medicate with alcohol and drugs to experience some kind of short-term respite from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment professionals will help people through a comprehensive treatment plan all targeted at restoring and replenishing mental, physical and emotional health while dealing with substance abuse problems. Providing a safe and secure setting is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can feel relaxed and remain free from distraction from things which may cut across their treatment plan and progress. Treatment counselors will work to recognize environmental issues in the client's life including negative people in their lives or any other things which need to be addressed in order for the person to be mentally healthy and sober t when they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation which will help them develop far better coping methods so they are able to better handle life situations well after they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to drugs as a possible option.
