Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very helpful in circumstances where traditional rehabilitation settings have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations in a women's life which can be distinctive and painful. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or other significant issues which are specific to women. Research has revealed that women can also become involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and are more vulnerable to illness due to drug abuse issues than males consequently. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are created in order that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug and alcohol rehab facilities that offer rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a 1st step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both common and gender specific issues who have triggered their drug abuse. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from other female peers, and a few facilities which offer rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for their young children.
