LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially depraved. This is sometimes an extremely tough or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug use to alleviate this pain. Somebody who is LGBT might not feel at ease within a conventional rehabilitation facility amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which must be resolved to enable them to get better. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients fix relationships with their family members, in the case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This circumstance is certainly a common trigger for abusing drugs, and is also an example of an issue that would be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence to enable them to lead a healthy life free from alcohol and drugs.
