Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very helpful in circumstances where standard treatment facilities have fallen short, like coping with situations in the women's life which can be unique and distressing. Such difficulties may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other significant issues that are specific to women. Research shows that women can also get involved in drug use more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness as a consequence of dependency issues than males as a result. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to put off searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created to ensure a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed programs, drug rehabilitation facilities which offer treatment services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both common and gender-specific issues who have induced their drug or alcohol use. Women also may take advantage of the constructive support from other female peers, and a few programs that provide treatment services to women also provide client beds for her young children.
