Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the rehabilitation client to take part in rehab services without the commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug treatment center. This doesn't often work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient option, it isn't for everybody. Those that decide on an outpatient rehab will usually attend meetings and be a part of counseling and rehab services on a part-time basis on a daily basis or several days weekly. This is often helpful for many who have recently completed a far more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a very small number of clients. For an individual with more serious drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug treatment programs which offer rehab over a long-term basis will probably be the more beneficial rehabilitation option.
