Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very helpful in situations where standard rehabilitation settings have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations in the women's life which are distinctive and distressing. Such concerns may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or another serious issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women may also become involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness due to addiction issues than males as a result. Because of responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and undergoing treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are designed to ensure that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug and alcohol rehab centers that offer treatment solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both general and gender specific problems which may have induced their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the positive support from their female peers, and several centers which offer treatment services to women also provide client beds for her young children.
