Criminal justice client rehabs are available being a far better option than time in jail or significant fines for many who have already been convicted of any sort of alcohol or drug related crime. For instance, somebody who has been found guilty of driving drunk of alcohol or drugs may be eligible for rehabilitation services because of their problem as opposed to serving time in prison. The judge may even order the individual receive treatment, either alone or in addition to other consequences. First-time offenders specifically tend to be given the ability to choose a criminal justice client rehab rather than other sentencing, and it is highly recommended they benefit from it when it is an option. The theory behind criminal justice client rehabs is it is far more efficient and effective to invest effort and time into treatment than punishment. Much research has been done to see how effective this strategy is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the criminal justice client returns or not to criminal justice system following rehab. The signs and indicators seem quite positive, and criminal justice clients that experience rehab have a much better probability of remaining out of the system following rehab.
