A group home for someone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which provides continual support and help for folks in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for individuals with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral problems for example. As opposed to sending individuals who are experiencing drug abusedrug use or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or another similar place, a group home might help offer an appropriate environment to help individuals maintain stability in their lives and also have counsel and support at their fingertips around the clock. Residents in a group home may be taking part in rehab services whilst in residence, or may be taking steps to get their life set up outside of the group home to be able to at some point live independently not in the group home. For instance, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain work. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent solution, but it's a viable short-term option for individuals who want to get their lives back together again.
