A group home is usually for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for those with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. As an alternative to sending individuals who are experiencing substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar place, a group home may help offer an appropriate environment to help sustain stability inside their lives and still have counsel and assistance at their fingertips 24/7. Residents inside a group home may be taking part in rehabilitation services whilst in residence, or could be taking steps to get their life set up outside the group home so that they can at some point live independently outside of the group home. For instance, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or acquire employment. A group home is definitely not a long-term or permanent solution, but it's a viable short-term option for those who making the effort to get their lives back together again.
