TRICARE is health insurance which is provided to folks in the armed forces of the United States. Drug and alcohol use inside the military is much more common than one would assume, and the need to provide rehabilitation to these individuals is an important priority. TRICARE covers many different rehabilitation services to handle alcohol and drug dependence such as detoxification services, as well as rehabilitation in outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient facilities. People with TRICARE will of course be asked to obtain a prior authorization before taking part in any kind of rehabilitation service, which can be organized with their regional TRICARE representative. If an inpatient facility is the favored rehab option, TRICARE will cover 21 days or one inpatient stay in this particular program per benefit period which is every 365 days. There are specific limits about just how long a TRICARE member can remain within an inpatient program that accepts TRICARE, and there is typically a 30-45 day window which is covered. TRICARE also covers family therapy that may be very useful, as it may help include family members in the healing and process of recovery. No member of the military should fight this battle alone, and there are professional rehab counselors waiting to help today.
