Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where conventional rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, including coping with situations inside a women's life that are unique and traumatic. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or other really serious issues that are specific to women. Research shows that women can also get embroiled in drug use more readily than men, and are more vulnerable to sickness as a result of dependency problems than males as a result. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to catastrophe. Being mindful of this, rehabilitation services for women are designed in order that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed facilities, alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs that offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women target both basic and gender-specific problems which may have prompted their drug abuse. Women also benefit from the positive support from other female peers, plus some facilities that provide rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for their young children.
