Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where traditional rehabilitation settings have fallen short, like dealing with situations in a women's life which are unique and traumatic. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other significant issues which are specific to women. Research has shown that women also can become involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and are more predisposed to sickness due to addiction problems than males consequently. Due to obligations in their home, women also tend to put off trying to find and undergoing treatment, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created to ensure a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Much like coed centers, alcohol and drug treatment facilities that provide treatment services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women focus on both common and gender specific concerns who have brought on their drug abuse. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from their female peers, and some programs that offer rehab services to women provide client beds for their kids.
