Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the treatment client to take part in rehabilitation services without the commitment one would ordinarily have to consent to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment program. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an opportune option, it isn't for everyone. People that choose an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis daily or several days each week. This is helpful for individuals who have recently completed an even more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with just a brief history of drug use which is usually a very small number of clients. For somebody with more severe drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which provide treatment on a long-term basis will probably be the more beneficial rehabilitation option.
