Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the rehabilitation client to take part in rehab services with the same commitment you might normally have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation program. This doesn't often work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. Those that do decide on an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and be a part of therapy and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis every day or a few days per week. This can be very helpful for many who have just completed a far more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For somebody with more serious drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment centers which provide rehab on a long-term basis will probably be the more effective treatment alternative.
